Election Day Blues

So today is the day, February 5th 2008. Do you know where your polling place is? I just visited mine and it was practically deserted. Just me & 2 old guys casting our votes for some Indian Gaming Regulations that I really had mixed feelings about after seeing strong commercials and literature presenting good arguments for both sides, but more importantly (I think) it was our chance to help decide who should be our next president...pretty important huh? My questions are: Are you registered to vote? Did you go vote, if so what compelled you to do so; and if not, why didn't you? You don't have to say which party you are registered as or how you voted, just wondering what the feeling is among college students.

I registered to vote, but I just couldn't make it there yesterday. I just had too much going on with my son. Not to mention I had no one to watch him, and I didn't want to drive all the way to Salinas and have them tell me he couldn't go in with me. I also didn't know too much about any of the bills, and since I like both Hilary and Obama, I don't really care that much who whens the primary (especially since they announced they would possibly be running mates) Anyway, I'm glad you voted though!

I think you're right about people not voting - although I can't say too much on it because I didn't vote myself. (I forgot to get my vote by mail thing in on time). Anyways, I think these elections are very important and I have been disappointed in the lack on conversation regarding these issues among my friends. I do have to say however, that I was very encouraged watching the "results" at how many people did come out and vote. Thanks for bringing this topic up.

I voted. I only voted for the propostions. I felt the local attention to the Indian tribes was more important. I voted against all of the propositions. There were only a very small number of tribes, and elite families of those tribes, that would benifit from those pieces of legislation.

I especially voted against proposition 93. Forty-two members of the California senate wanted better job security? The trickery! I find it despicable those political pieces of garbage put that on the ballot. When union members of the CSU and state legislators ask for accountability from the administrators CSU spending, Gov. Schwartzeneggar vetoed it. 420,000 students get no relief for their fees that have since doubled in the last decace. But they'll put legislation on a ballot for 42 politicians?

It really is the "good old boys" club. And we the people think we're making progressive change. Wow.
