Will the flame of the Olympic torch be put out?
Recently in the news we have seen growing protests as the Olympic torch makes it's way on a global journey. Officials are now considering ending the journey due to activists opposing China's human rights policies and the situation in Tibet. I understand that the activists want to bring attention to their cause, but in a way, it seems that this is not the proper forum. The Olympics are about the best of the best competing in their sport against the world and this is dampening what is supposed to be an event that brings the world together. What do you think?

I think you're right in a way. The olympics is not about the issues going on in Tibet and China. However, I really applaud the activists because they are bringing an immense amount of attention to an issue that has gone ignored for so long. And if the Olympics is about bringing the world together why isn't it a good place to address these global injustices? I really hope that we can get beyond our desire to be entertained with the competition of the Olympics and really decide if this is an important enough issue to jeopardize our entertainment for.
I also have mixed feelings about this as well. It seems like the U.S. is on its propaganda high horse again. Since when the hell does George W Bush give a flying flip about human rights? This is a totally strategy. America like to name things and point fingers, that way we become distracted and angry at the Chinese government instead of our own.
