Friend Web Sites
Can't think of anything really profound at the moment. Just wondering how many people out there use MySpace or FaceBook or similar sites. My teenage daughter spends hours on MySpace and for a site that says "a place for friends" it sure seems like it creates a lot of drama. So, are these really good places to make good friends or do they cause trouble? I'm sure some of you have great stories...let's hear 'em!

My sons have me as afriend so I see all their friends and blogs etc. My sons are 21 and 25 but I would be very careful and demand that you are in her friends. There is some really ugly stuff for young kids and it is completely unsupervised. I know my sons haven't realized that unless you are careful this info could get out anywhere. Stay safe.
I thought I posted on this earlier this week - but when I looked today it wasn't there so it must not have worked.
Anyways, I have been on MySpace and Facebook both for years with no problems with stalkers, people I don't know or drama with my friends. The sites themselves have all the privacy restrictions necessary to make them useful tools to keep in contact with others. I think parents often get overly concerned about their kids on these sites and forget to trust their children. I have been involved with one girl who really misused the sites for making connections with people doing illegal activities but she is one out of many I know who are on these sites. The best bet is for parents to be open - talk to your kids about your concerns and trust them. If you trust them then if something does come up they will be willing to talk to you about it - otherwise you are just closing that door completely. But remember this perspective is coming from someone without a child.
