In class last week we were discussing what free speech, freedom of the press are...etc. Someone suggested watching the documentary "Why We Fight". It was on this morning and I watched the last half with my sister. We were both crying at some of the footage of Iraqi civilians being killed by "smart bombs". It was chilling and eye opening. I was wondering if others have watched this film and if so, what they have thought about it. If you haven't seen it, check your Comcast listings because it's on again several times in the coming weeks. It really brings home what we were talking about in our group regarding how sometimes (okay a lot of the time) what we see on the news is very one sided, orchestrated with a purpose, and leaving out a lot of the information we need to be really informed on important issues like why we are building 14 permanent military bases in Iraq...

I have heard about this film but I didn't know when to find it on. After your recommendation I will definitely look for it and get back to you on it. It sounds like something more people should be watching. Thanks for bringing my attention back to this.
This is an amazing film. Here is th link to the trailer:

I also have not seen this film but I don’t know if I could watch it on television because of the violence (guess I am a wimp). The media does not share anything with us. We have to rely on alternative media in order to find out about United States current events. Our news is totally censored and this is exactly what we were talking about in class. I have had the opportunity to watch news from different countries around the world and I have come to the conclusion that our news is being manipulated for someone’s benefit- not the general public (holy smokes I sound paranoid!).
What is the difference between any form of media and truth. Is it possible we believe the media sources we want to believe because it matches our own agenda or are films always truthful? I see all the horror in the world and I live a great life in the United States. I have my share of problems that pale to most in the world. I know the United Staes is not perfect but what kind of society do people want who are so anti-war etc. No one wants war. I just wonder what the people who are protesting war or want social justice want. What is social justice exactly? More money, more free things or what? Redistribution of wealth, Marxism?I myself would prefer to work less and get free healthcare and education and all sorts of government help, but when we depend on the government for so much help then you are depending on the corporations and the people who are making money to pay for it. The corporations and governments in turn have to exlpoit someone for the US to have all it does. Not a good thing but get real, every plastic bag, metal pole, piece of clothing, car, fuel, most natural resources of any kind have some sort of exploitation involved. If anyone can tell what a socially just society looks like and exactly how we can provide all that everyone wants great. If we have socialism I guarantee you I will not work 12 hour days 6 days per week so I can share. I will take it easy and just get my share. Socialism lacks motivation-- see USSR-- Anyway Marxism led to Stalin who slaughtered my people in even greater numbers than the Jews. I am 3rd generation immigrant from the German Colinies in Russia and I do belive in hard work and living a streiving for agood life as did my family. My people produced food and goods for Russians, because their system broke down farmers did not want to work nand in return they slaughtered and starved my relatives. So before we talk about justice for all and everyone gets an equal share be prepared. There will always be someone in power and in socialism it is even more concentrated. What we need is less government. Really do you want the government responsible for your health! I say we should have no borders in this world and let everyone be free to go where they want in the world. Then we could talk about social justice and I would be fine with that. As it is, redistrbution of wealth will not work, but the more things we want for free the more the government gets into working people's pockets the less people will care about working and soon America won't be a nation of free people but beholding to whatever power- broker gets his hands on us.
So yes war is bad and until you agree to give up the American dream--family--home--food--ipods--flatscreens--cars....and your way of life, it will never end--see history.
